A day at the sauna is of course the ideal way to relax. You can continue to visit the sauna during your pregnancy as well, although there are a few things you should take into account.

In general, women who regularly visited the sauna before becoming pregnant and who are experiencing a normal pregnancy and not taking any blood pressure medication can continue to visit the sauna without a problem. The sauna relaxes you and that benefits both mother and child and can even have a positive effect on delivery. Moreover, you lose a lot of fluid, which prevents your tissue from retaining too much fluid. It is important to start out carefully, however, because hormones may cause your body to react differently to the sauna than before the pregnancy. Just as during exercise, your heart rate as well as the baby’s heart rate increases, but that is nothing to worry about.

The most important thing is always to listen closely to your body, especially during pregnancy.
Tip: Pregnancy package!

First 14 weeks
You are advised not to visit the sauna during the first 14 weeks of pregnancy. The embryo is undergoing important development during this period and is still very vulnerable.

Last 6 weeks
It is not advisable to use small communal baths, such as the plunge bath and whirlpool, during the last 6 weeks of pregnancy. The chance of infection is increased during this period because dilation may have started. Swimming is not a problem however.

Beauty treatments and massages
Your pregnancy is in fact a great time to indulge in a facial treatment, manicure and/or pedicure. Specially for pregnant women we offer a pregnancy massage, which can be enjoyed at any point during pregnancy. There are certain beauty treatments and massages that are best avoided during pregnancy. Our employees in the beauty department or reservation department can advise you on this.

Thermen Bussloo advises that the following facilities and treatments be avoided throughout the entire pregnancy:
- Infra-red sauna
- Algae pack
- Aufguss

When making your reservation, please inform us if you are pregnant, so that our employees can take this into account.
